When witches go riding,
and black cats are seen,
the moon laughs and whispers,
‘tis near Halloween.

asked us to dress up for dance class on Monday night. Truth be
told, I wasn't in any mood to play along with the Halloween festivities.
Since my sons are now grown and don't live at home, I no longer
have the box of costumes and accessories which were always a lifesaver
in years gone by. What in the world could I be?
I went out with my friend Abby earlier last week,
and one of our stops took us to JoAnns. I saw cat ears with an
attached bow tie, and decided that it would definitely be better
than nothing. I didn't even buy face paint, hoping that I could
reproduce a cat using only makeup pencils. The result was quite
admirable considering my limited tools. Armed only with a black
eyeliner pencil, I transformed myself into a Halloween feline.
Ironically, my less than excited mood was definitely lifted once
the transformation was made.
A few nights ago, we had
another gorgeous moonlit night. The skies were full of clouds,
which made the moon look even more eerie - and Halloween like.
I set up my tripod in the back yard and took a few photos. I also
moved my tripod to the front yard and snapped a couple of photos.
While I was photographing the front yard using a long exposure,
a car drove by. The head lights and brake lights left a streak
of color in the photo.
A couple of days ago, I took Sedona out for a drive.
Our travels took us to Chena Lakes. I wasn't too surprised to
see that the lake was frozen over, nor was I surprised to see
someone ice fishing from the bank. However, I don't think the
ice is thick enough to be walking or driving a snowmachine across
it. Apparently not everyone feels the same way I do - and maybe
I'm just too overly cautious. There were obvious snow machine
tracks on the lake, and leading all the way to the center. Call
me chicken, but I wouldn't be driving out on the water yet. Not
with afternoon temps topping 20F above zero!
My new camera lens arrived yesterday. I've taken
a few photos to experiment with my close-up filters. I don't have
anything worthwhile to share. I'm hoping that Steve and I will
go for a drive sometime next week while he's off. Perhaps Chena
Hot Springs. Perhaps down the Parks Highway towards Denali. We'll
see if he's up to it.
I don't have much else to write about today, but
I wanted to finish up the month of October. It's hard to believe
that November is tomorrow! *shakes head* I'm not ready for the
holiday season at all!
